Dr. Edward Watson

C. Edward Watson, Ph.D. is Associate Vice President for Curricular and Pedagogical Innovation and Executive Director of Open Educational Resources and Digital Innovation with the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). There, he leads programming and a scholarly agenda that focuses on general education, teaching and learning practice, and evidence-based instruction enhanced by technology. For the latter, key foci include artificial intelligence (A.I.), digital equity, and open learning. Before joining AAC&U, Dr. Watson was the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Georgia (UGA). At UGA, he led university efforts associated with faculty development, TA development, student learning outcomes assessment, and learning technologies. He has published on teaching and learning in a number of journals, including Change, Diversity & Democracy, Educational Technology, EDUCAUSE Review, International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning, Journal for Effective Teaching, Liberal Education, Peer Review, and To Improve the Academy, and has been quoted in the New York Times, Chronicle of Higher Education, Campus Technology, EdTech, EdSurge, Consumer Reports, UK Financial Times, and University Business Magazine and by the AP, CNN and NPR regarding current teaching and learning issues and trends in higher education. His most recent book is Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2024).

Dr. Judith Risch

Judy has been an Office for Civil Rights attorney for over 20 years. Currently, she is the Co-Lead of OCR’s National Web Accessibility team. Before coming to OCR, she finished a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and her law degree. Part of her work experience also includes teaching in special education and the development of online instruction. Her favorite part of her job is helping people serve students better and preventing problems before they happen.

On June 5th, 2024, starting at 6:00 PM, during the NCCCS Online Learning Summit at Surry Community College, the Viticulture and Enology program at SCC presents a unique wine dinner experience. Enjoy uniquely crafted wines by students from the V&E program, expertly paired with delightful dishes. Leading this enological and culinary journey are SCC’s Enology Instructor, David Bower, and Program Assistant, Matt Wilson. You definitely don’t want to miss this!
